Moodboard

To be honest, up until maybe week 4 or 5 (?) I wasn't sure what the hell I wanted to do. I tried to come up with ideas and was constantly drawing blanks. Admittedly, I'm not the best when it comes to coming up with ideas for a setting I did eventually come across the concept of an underwater village and was like "Ooh that sounds cool", and since mushrooms grew underground and I kept seeing peculiar mushroom houses, I used those on a whim too.

Composition

The first drawing was made before I stuck with the "mushroom house" idea, I initially wanted it to be a normal house, but then changed my mind last minute for it to be an inn.

Some more close-up views of the first mushroom house

Mr. Kanaan suggested that besides adding crystals, I should add some sort of cultural elements to the house, as it looked very plain. I did struggle to come up with something for that too (Man I struggle a lot with ideas). I started yapping to my friend while in a call with them trying to come up with something, and eventually thought about snakes/dragons coiling around a tower

No photo description available.

Something like that. But I thought a dragon or a snake would be too typical and I didn't know whether those animals lived in caves. That's when I had the bright idea to use an eel instead, as those look pretty similar to snakes. I decided to make it so that the villagers mistook the eel for a snake, since you don't really see snakes and eels that often unless you go out of your way to explore.

Took a while to get there, but I was finally happy with something. I did still need to make a bunch of adjustments from Mr. Kanaan's suggestions, like making it clear the eel for that specific building was made of metal (And whatever materials the rest of the building is) and changing the position of the sign, along with adding other elements. He also suggested that I made the drawing portrait instead of landscape, since I had difficulties drawing in a 16:9 landscape canvas.
